Filmed over the course of nearly three years, the filmmakers use unique access and never before heard testimonies to tell a story of the aftermath of the deadliest mass shooting of school children in American history on December 14, 2012. NEWTOWN documents a traumatized community fractured by grief and driven toward a sense of purpose. Joining the ranks of a growing club to which no one wants to belong, a cast of characters interconnect to weave an intimate story of community resilience.

Moderated by Hunter Schwarz, Independent Journal Review National Political Reporter and co-author of The Political Edit, this unique panel will feature film director Kim Snyder and producer Maria Cuomo Cole, film subject and Sandy Hook parent Mark Barden, and Congressman Ted Lieu (D, CA-33).

Screening: The C Word

Reserve complimentary tickets on Eventbrite

Join us at the 2016 Democratic National Convention for a special pre-release screening of executive producer Morgan Freeman's bold new film: THE C WORD.

It will forever change the way you view cancer.

At the heart of this provocative documentary are two twin narratives: one from celebrated French neuroscientist and cancer revolutionary Dr. David Servan-Schreiber, the other from THE C WORD’s own director, Meghan L. O’Hara. Together, they take us on a journey from diagnosis to wellness by exposing the systematic failings in our society that predispose us to disease. The cure to cancer might be very different from what we already think.

2pm: Screening

3:20pm: Post-screening Panel and Audience Q&A moderated by the Independent Journal Review's Benny Johnson, featuring award-winning and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Meghan O'Hara and special guest Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, Founder and Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Congressional Cancer Prevention Caucus.

Screening: Norman Lear: Another Version of You

Reserve complimentary tickets on Eventbrite

Join us at the 2016 Democratic National Convention for a special screening of NORMAN LEAR: JUST ANOTHER VERSION OF YOU.

A definitive chronicle of Norman Lear’s life, work, and achievements, this documentary is so much more than an arm’s-length, past-tense biopic. At 93, Mr. Lear is as vital and engaged as he ever was. Arguably the most influential creator, writer, and producer in the history of television, Mr. Lear brought primetime into step with the times. Using comedy and indelible characters, his legendary 1970s shows such as, “All In the Family,” “Maude,” and “The Jeffersons,” boldly cracked open dialogue and shifted the national consciousness, injecting enlightened humanism into sociopolitical debates on race, class, creed, and feminism.

2pm: Screening of Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You

3:20pm: Post-screening Panel and Audience Q&A moderated by Independent Journal Review's White House Correspondent Kate Glassman Bennett. This panel features the film's Academy Award nominated filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, People For the American Way President Michael Keegan, and a special appearance by one of the most influential people in television history: Mr. Norman Lear himself.

Join us at the 2016 Democratic National Convention for a special pre-release screening of Robert Kenner's COMMAND AND CONTROL before it hits theaters this fall.

This high-stakes documentary thriller hones in on a single case of so-called “human error,” spotlighting the gargantuan risks inherent in the United States’ aggressive nuclear proliferation policy during the Cold War. Through a series of events, the film demonstrates that when working on a weapon of mass destruction, you’re counting on everything to work perfectly all the time — and things just don’t work perfectly all the time.

Screening: Check It

Reserve complimentary tickets on Eventbrite

Join us at the 2016 Democratic National Convention for a special screening of Dana Flor and Toby Oppenheimer's CHECK IT.

We live in an age where gay bashing worldwide is increasingly met with zero tolerance, but in the life of the Check It, intolerable harassment happens daily with mind-numbing regularity and no media coverage.

CHECK IT is an intimate portrait of a gay African American gang struggling to survive in one of Washington D.C.’s most violent neighborhoods through an unlikely avenue: Fashion. Following one small gang — the Check It — in one city, this exceptional documentary reflects a broader national issue. Being gay in poor, violent African American neighborhoods carries a dangerous stigma and for the Check It, and those like them, standing up for who they are is more than an issue of gay pride. It’s literally risking their lives.

10am: Screening

11:20am: Post-screening Panel and Audience Q&A moderated by the Independent Journal Review's Kate Glassman Bennett and Hunter Schwarz, co-authors of The Political Edit. The panel will feature award-winning director Toby Oppenhemier, film characters Tray and Ronald "Mo" Moten, and the Deputy Mayor of Washington, DC, Courtney Snowden.
